Looking Into The Future

Zimbabweans have shown ingenuity that they are contributing today as scientists and business people around the world .The Culture of caring and hard work is fertile ground to rebuild for the future, but we need to move from the survival strategies that have been necessary in the hard economic times. Over three million people live in the Matabeleland region which are also the poorest in terms of infrastructural development and in the provision of services. More than 70% of people in the region live in degraded and largely unproductive lands vulnerable to droughts, food shortages, water limitations and inadequate economic opportunities despite having abundant mineral and natural resources. Since independence, the region has experienced slow economic growth due to limited investments has led to high unemployment and poverty. Overall economic and political down turn have reversed some of the national development gains of the early 1990's
